Overview

The Conformitè Europëenne (CE) Mark is defined as the European Union’s (EU) mandatory conformity marking for regulating the goods sold within the European Economic Area (EEA) since 1985.

The CE marking represents a manufacturer’s declaration that products comply with the EU’s New Approach Directives. These directives not only apply to products within the EU but also for products that are manufactured in or designed to be sold in the EEA. This makes the CE marking recognizable worldwide even to those unfamiliar with the EEA.

CE/CB Certification

The IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE) Certified Body (CB) Scheme is the world’s first international system for the mutual acceptance of product safety test reports and certificates. The CB Scheme relies on the use of internationally-accepted product safety standards.

Key steps for CB Scheme

The CBTL tests products to ensure that they meet IEC standards. If the product passes all technical standards, a CB Test Report and Test Certificate are provided. This certification shows that the product meets national technical specifications. It also permits for lawful entry into that market.

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has launched the Full Certification Scheme (CB-FCS) for electrical equipment in an effort to improve safety and quality. The system will operate under the present CB Scheme of the IEC, with significant benefits from first factory inspections.
